Omega 6 food supplement based on borage seed oil

While fats can be harmful, not all oils interfere with the proper functioning of our bodies. Fatty acids are essential for the good health of our organism. Gamma-linolenic acid is one of the essential fatty acids.

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid. This essential fatty acid is necessary for the body. Indeed, our organism needs it but is not able to synthesize it, it must be provided via food. The body can synthesize GLA from another omega-6: linolenic acid.

GliSODin Anti-aging a food supplement based on borage seed oil

What are Omega 6?

The metabolism of Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids follows two parallel pathways that use common enzymes. There is therefore a competition between Omega 3 and 6 at the enzymatic level during their conversion into long chain fatty acids (EPA, eicosapentaenoic acid, DHA, docosahexaenoic acid). Therefore, an excessive intake of Omega 6 slows down the production of EPA and DHA from their precursor, alpha-linolenic acid.

In other words, in the event of a diet that is too rich in Omega 6, the body uses less of its Omega 3 resources, which has the consequence of causing health complications, in particular cardiovascular diseases, allergic reactions. or inflammatory. It is important to provide the body with the right dosage of Omega 3 and Omega 6!

Among the Omega 6 fatty acids that the body produces from linolenic acid, there is one particularly important: GLA (gamma-linolenic fatty acid), presented as the "good Omega-6". Studies have shown the role of GLA on the health of the skin, but also on the inflammatory state in general, showing the benefit of supplementing with GLA. The main sources of GLA are seed oils, namely Borage oil, Evening primrose oil and Blackcurrant oil.

Borage, a wild plant of the Boraginaceae family, is distinguished by its star-shaped blue flowers and leaves covered with white hairs. It is cultivated for the precious oil extracted from its seeds. Borage seed oil is the richest source in the plant world of a fatty acid from the Omega 6 family, gamma linolenic acid.

What is the role of the GLA?

Apart from GLA, all the other omega-6s are considered to be in excess in our food intake, they can be a source of physiological disorders and could be at the origin of many widespread chronic pathologies.

This active ingredient is regularly used in the cosmetological world. It is found in the manufacture of products which aim to regenerate the suppleness and elasticity of the skin. Gamma-linolenic acid is quite indicated in cases of skin dryness or seborrhea, excessive production of sebum. GLA is a major determinant of hydration and suppleness of the skin. Like all fatty acids, GLA serves as a constituent of cell membranes, it is the precursor of membrane fatty acids. It brings a certain flexibility to the cell membrane and to the tissue made up of cells. These GLA fatty acids are essential for forming cell envelopes, precursors of prostaglandins (PG).

Gamma-linolenic acid facilitates the production of a prostaglandin, called prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), a very important substance which is particularly involved in the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. PGE1 also improves blood circulation, nerve function, it regulates cell division and slows the production of cholesterol, it is also an effective anti-inflammatory. GLA is converted in the body to prostaglandin through dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA).

A diet enriched in GLA allows better incorporation of food into tissues such as the liver, the walls of blood vessels, red blood cells, etc. Unsaturated fatty acids, such as GLA, allow cell membranes to keep their fluidity, this quality is essential for vital inter-cell exchanges to take place.

What are the sources of GLA?

Gamma-linolenic acid is found in certain vegetable oils, such as evening primrose oil, borage oil or blackcurrant seed oil. The contents of GLA are, in general, very low in vegetable oils, a significant content is however found in the oils mentioned above. Due to stress, aging, an inadequate lifestyle or a poor diet, our body struggles to convert linolenic acid into GLA.

Borage oil

Bourache oil contains the best levels of GLA. Thanks to its essential fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins, it is the ally of dry skin, this oil is regenerative and restorative, it helps maintain the hydrolipidic film, the skin's protective film. It improves the suppleness and elasticity of the skin. Borage oil has anti-aging properties, it can help limit skin aging and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Borage oil has other properties: it strengthens the nails, restores shine to the hair, prevents the appearance of stretch marks and reduces pain associated with rheumatism.

Evening Primrose Oil

This vegetable oil provides omega-6, it is particularly interesting because of its GLA content. It offers interesting properties on the cutaneous level, particularly on the level of cell membranes. Tired, dry or suffering skin can use this oil, cutaneous or oral. The benefits of this oil are used in dermatology, it can be used to soothe dry skin problems. On a cosmetic level, Evening Primrose oil is antioxidant, nourishing, protective, revitalizing and soothing. It is also used to reduce acne, cellulite, rosacea, ...

Blackcurrant Seed Oil

Thanks to its high linolenic acid composition, blackcurrant seed oil can help revitalize sensitive skin, it is recommended as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Its healing and soothing properties can soothe sensitive, damaged or dry skin. Delicate and mature skin can benefit from the plant active ingredients contained in blackcurrant seed oil to prevent signs of aging and the appearance of early wrinkles. This oil is also beneficial for oily skin, the strong presence of linolenic acid helps reduce excessive sebum production, reduce acne and prevent blackheads.
