It is mainly characterized by sudden redness and heat at the centro-facial erythema, clinically called flushes. Persistent redness, papules and pustules can also characterize this condition. These symptoms can be triggered by temperature changes, sun, alcohol, stress, emotions, spicy food and sports.
In rosacea, the sebaceous glands in the skin produce excess sebum. This inflammation-promoting substance alters the barrier function of the epidermis and generates an escalation of inflammation. Sebum clogs the pores and leads to a false feeling of dryness.
